A difference maker is willing to step out of his or her comfort zone, take a risk, and trust in God. When a difference maker finds that the current circumstances are out of his or her control, they pray. When they find the circumstances are under control, they plan.
Today, we would see Nehemiah as a mover and a shaker, both noble and notable, who decided to make a difference in the lives of God’s people. Like Hezekiah, he was a difference maker. [Nehemiah 2:5]
Nothing happens until someone moves. That’s what a difference maker is. A difference maker is a person of positive influence. A person possessing a God-given ability and sense of duty to influence people to accomplish God’s purpose.
What makes a difference maker unique is not charisma, but character. To quote our current pastor, who is leading us through a study of Nehemiah, a difference maker has “a message worth remembering. He will have a lifestyle worth considering, and faith worth imitating.”
“Remember your leaders who spoke the Word of God to you. Consider the outcome of their way of life, and imitate their faith.” [Hebrews 13:7–8]
“Whatever you have learned of me, received or heard from me, or seen in me—put into practice.” [Philippians 4:9]
A difference maker is willing to step out of his or her comfort zone, take a risk, and trust in God. When a difference maker finds that the current circumstances are out of his or her control, they pray. When they find the circumstances are under control, they plan.
Through prayer, God not only helps difference makers understand the challenges; He also helps them define solutions and prepare for the questions and challenges that will no doubt naturally arise. A difference maker for God knows they must prepare in advance of opportunities presenting themselves. When these opportunities do present themselves, and we don’t feel like we are ready, we need to be willing and ready to move ahead in spite of our fears, trusting that God will make the balance of His plan known, as we advance.
